Dr. Aarathi Prasad | Silk: A World History | Talks at Google
Writer, broadcaster, and researcher, Dr. Aarathi Prasad, discusses “Silk: A World History.” In a gorgeous history that spans continents and millennia, Aarathi weaves together the complex story of the queen of fabrics. Through the scientists who have studied silk, and the biology of the animals from which it has been drawn, she explores the global, natural, and cultural history (and future) of a unique material that has fascinated the world for thousands of years.

After completing a PhD in molecular genetics from Imperial College London, she later trained in bioarchaeology. Dr. Prasad is an Honorary Research Fellow at University College London’s Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment, and part of an international team excavating and analyzing ancient DNA from funerary sites in Spain, Rome, and Pompeii. She is the author of two books published in the UK, In the Bonesetter's Waiting Room: Travels Through Indian Medicine and Like a Virgin: How Science Is Redesigning the Rules of Sex.

He talked about History, Beliefs, ideologies, Religions, cultures, chronology of changes, challeges and so on and the future of the "World." Whose World??? It is all about Western Europe (the most Dominant, in Control, Supremacists), Russia, China and India. It will be interesting to hear or read his research and prediction about the larger WORLD, which includes ALL Peoples, and not just in passing as he mentioned Africa here. Meanwhile, it is interesting to see how the mind and intellect of renowed Western civilization scholars work.

It's overstimulating to go from consciously aware of surpundings and noises to a chaotic environment outside of your private sectors. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future.., I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life!!

In fact, I had no prior experience or understanding when I began investing in 2020, but by the end of 2023, I had made a profit of almost $850k. All I had been doing was going by what my financial advisor had told me. This demonstrates that all you truly need is a professional to assist you; you don't even need to be a great investor or put in a lot of work.

There is a difference between the demands of a degree by the elites and some talent without degrees you refused to interview! Now define success! Millionaires? Multi millionaires? Billionaires? How many rich "successful" people are miserable? Many committed suicide! Out of the 3 he mentioned, 2 have used their so-called success to silence people who made them a "success!" If you're moderately comfortable and provide for your family with the essentials and a little more, especially if you're happy, would that be considered successful? Don't confuse lust of greed with success! Don't define a man by his wallet and his degree! Ask the wives and children of the ultra rich men who's time is consumed by "success!" How many "successful people are divorced?

I think I recall him saying in his book that he was working at a place and got fired because he wouldn't do what his boss told him to do. His boss told him to get on his knees and scrape gum off the ground. He swore that he would never allow that to happen again and so he became a entrepreneur. You cannot live a life without being under someone's thumb. All humans have to do what other people tell them to. Even celebrities. If this is not so then try walking into a bank and tell them that you are a celebrity and to worship you and throw money at you. See how that works out.

In the part starting at 21:51 he talked about aerobic exercise for neurogenesis; anything that gets your heart beating fast and gets you breathing quickly and hard. He then went on to say that interval training or high intensity training is not good and it needs to be a sustained 20, 30, 40 minute workout. You can make adjustments to your HIIT training to keep your breathing and heart rate high enough for long enough. When you stop moving (or ease up) it takes time for your heart rate and breathing to drop too much. Alter the timing of your ease up periods; don't ease up too much or rest for too long then your heart rate won't drop too much.

The people who asked questions had not read the book and the book answers those questions. Then the last question was just trolling. This is not an intellectual discussion. It is like showing up to class not having done the homework. I'm worried that these engineers are not doing science. They have their own ideas and are not looking critically at their own paradigms. This is why large language models are not able to get AGI because the people they are testing it do not think critically they just regurgitate facts and do not create anything. the hardware will only go as far as the people who train it. this is a good example of what you put into a system is what you get out. this to me explains a lot about both google and why we are were we are in this process.

I love dennett. Everything made sense. Except for the free will stuff. He's clearly afraid something horrible would happen to society and the law if people came to understand that free will doesn't really exist. I don't share his fear. Most people denying free will seem very sensible grounded individuals. And the reasons they give are much better than the strawman Dennett presents here. I think his fear took him over and much intelligent people have many ways of rationalising their fears to themselves. His compatibilism never really took off outside of academia, and that's probably for the better. Not in the least for all his own other work. It's all genetics and memetics, and the self is a benign user illusion... but it has free will? It is not needed to make this move. But it is very hard to change your mind on something you've written and published a book about. I think his slight of hand on the free will thing will be soon forgotten and all his amazing work on consciousness, the self, religion, evolution and memetics will live on for a long long time. Thank you dennett for being an inspiration for generations to come. You've been thinking.
